Depending upon the need of the asset (building/vessel/platform/plant) an Asbestos Register is prepared.
This follows the guidelines set out in USEPA/OSHA standards, appropriate work practices should be implemented in the form of an Operations and Maintenance program to safely manage any ACMs determined to be present. Such a programme should document safe working practices used and should include methods for notification of workers/contractors of the presence and location of asbestos materials.
In accordance with USEPA/OSHA rules all personnel who have potential for contacting ACM will require “Asbestos Awareness” training. There should be at least one trained, asbestos O & M person on the vessel at all times, in the event of any accidental ACM disturbance. This person can also provide initial 2-hour Asbestos Awareness training for new crew members.
